Justin Lawson

About myself

Results-driven front-end developer with extensive experience in building scalable applications and design systems. I excel in team management, technical mentorship, and fostering collaboration to drive successful project outcomes.

With a strong ability to learn and teach new technologies, I empower team members to close knowledge gaps and contribute confidently. My background in psychology enhances my approach to nurturing team dynamics and promoting accountability. I have successfully led full-stack and cross-functional teams, both in-person and distributed, believing that a shared purpose and positive group dynamics unlock potential.

Prior to working as a leader/manager, my most recent IC role was as a Lead UI Engineer in the ad-tech industry. I built out platform features and design systems with a variety of technologies. I see a four-fold focus in my role as an engineering manager as imperative. My individual people, my team, my org and my customers all demand my most empathic and imaginative self and I try to bring that attention and effort everyday.

Prior to working in software I was involved in education and psychology as both a special-education teacher and a child and family therapist. I am also a classically trained illustrator and have a passion for art, philosophy and 3D printing. I live with my wife and kids in Colorado with an evil hairless cat.
